GLM API vs Coding Plan: Z.AI base URLs and keys

Independent setup guidance. Guides and local tools are free; provider inference has its own terms. The site-provided pool is separate.

Z.AI's standard model API and GLM Coding Plan are separate products. The standard API is for model API usage; Coding Plan is a subscription for supported coding tools. Choose the product, its own key and the protocol your client uses before setting a base URL.

Choose the API product and key

  1. Standard API: create a Standard API Key in Z.AI's API Keys page. Check the selected model's current pricing and account balance or credits before sending requests.
  2. Coding Plan: check your subscription and create a key in the matching personal or team plan. Z.AI says newly created personal-plan, team-plan and standard API keys are managed separately and are not interchangeable.
  3. Confirm your tool is supported. Z.AI limits Coding Plan use to its supported tools and products. A generic OpenAI-compatible client is not automatically eligible for that plan.

Match the base URL to the protocol

These are API base URLs, not necessarily the complete request URL. For standard Chat Completions, Z.AI's full example ends in /api/paas/v4/chat/completions. Follow your client's field label and the official tool-specific instructions; do not append a path that the SDK already adds.

Check an error before changing plans

  1. Identify the product, key type, model ID, actual request URL and response body. A saved environment variable or application setting may override the address shown in a form.
  2. If a Coding Plan request reaches the standard API, check the client's configured provider and base URL. An OpenClaw user report describes this symptom in one version; it does not establish the cause of every error or the behavior of your installed version.
  3. For insufficient balance or quota, check the key's product, active plan, applicable usage limits and account balance. Error 1113 alone does not prove that an endpoint mismatch is the cause. Preserve the status and error body for support.

ChinaGenAI's separate free API uses the free label and automatic routing; it does not promise GLM. Check its connection settings or inspect an existing API error.
