Can I use it for free?

Ark's model API is usage-billed. Its current activation guidance describes a limited safe-trial allowance for eligible new users and says requests pause near the free allowance; eligibility, amount and available models can vary. Check the model and remaining quota in your own Ark console before use.

Set the connection in your app

Create or select an Ark API key and choose a model enabled for that account. In a client that supports a custom OpenAI-compatible Chat Completions endpoint, use the documented data-plane API base below. The model name in the request must match the model or inference endpoint available to your account.

This is the standard China (Beijing) inference API base for Chat Completions. The control-plane host and Coding Plan endpoints are different; use the base for the API product you purchased.

Ark's current OpenAI SDK example uses doubao-seed-2-1-pro-260915. Treat it as a dated example: copy the exact model or endpoint ID shown for your account and region.

The local preset uses the documented China (Beijing) API base and an official example model ID; check current availability and account permission before sending.
Free trial is not unlimited access. Ark currently documents up to 500,000 free tokens in safe-experience mode for eligible new users who have not enabled the model service; requests pause near the allowance. Check your account's remaining quota and paid-service state.
OpenAI-compatible Chat Completions does not guarantee every optional OpenAI feature. Follow the selected model's current Ark capability notes.
